Canada officially removes additional CRS points for having a valid job offer

On March 25, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that candidates in the Express Entry system will no longer receive bonus points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for having a valid job offer, including those supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). (effective immediately)

Previously, candidates could receive an additional 50 or 200 CRS points for having arranged employment, which significantly increased their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence through Express Entry.

This change affects all candidates in Express Entry draws, except those who have already received an ITA or have a permanent residence application in progress; these cases will not be affected.

IRCC says this is a temporary measure to enhance the integrity of Canada's immigration system and reduce fraud related to LMIAs.

To adapt to this change, candidates should focus on improving other elements of their profile, such as education, work experience, and language ability, to increase their CRS score and chances of receiving an ITA.
