This is a change from earlier this year, when the government announced in January that it would accept no new applications in 2025 and planned to process only a maximum of 15,000 applications, all in 2024.

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is a family reunification pathway to permanent residency.

Super Visa Program

The Canadian government has another program that allows parents and grandparents to reunite with their loved ones in Canada for extended visits.

Under the Super Visa program, eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents or grandparents to visit them in Canada for multiple years.
