Green card holders and US citizens must present Real ID when checking in for domestic flights.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, starting May 7, 2025, all passengers 18 years of age and older in the United States will need to present a REAL ID-compliant identification or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport, to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities.

To determine if your driver’s license or ID card is REAL ID compliant, look for the star icon in the upper right corner of the card. If it is not, you will need to update it at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). This process requires documentation such as proof of identity, Social Security number, and proof of residential address.

Note that children under 18 years of age are not required to have ID when traveling with an adult on domestic flights.
